Patriots Bring Four Rutgers Alumni to Super Bowl XLIX

Four former Rutgers players are heading to Super Bowl XLIX. With the New England Patriots’ 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship, former Scarlet Knights Duron Harmon, Devin McCourty, Logan Ryan, and Tim Wright are bound for the big game. With four players, Rutgers football is tied for the most alumni on an active roster in the Super Bowl. Oregon, Texas A&M and Wisconsin each also have four.

The four players will look to add to a list of 11 Super Bowl victories by Rutgers alumni on February 1st in Glendale, Arizona, when they take on the Seattle Seahawks. The last Scarlet Knights with a Super Bowl victory were Ray Rice and Alex Silvestro with the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII. This was also the first time Rutgers saw multiple alumni on a Super Bowl winning team.

For the season, Wright had 26 catches for 259 yards and six touchdowns. McCourty had 68 tackles, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble. Ryan had 42 tackles, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble, while Harmon had 12 tackles and an interception.

Despite the outcome of the game, Rutgers’ fans should be proud of the university’s representation.
